Heybrook Lookout

Heybrook Lookout

There’s a trailhead on the side of Highway 2, just inside the National Forest boundary, that we’ve often sped past as we head east into the mountains. Its proximity and mystery always intrigued me. There are never many cars parked in the modest lot, and no features ever stood out besides the steep wall that the trail must have hugged. No road sign calls it out as an attraction. Finally, I remembered to look it up when I had signal, and learned about the short, steep trail to the Heybrook Lookout.

Hiking the Historic Lime Kiln Trail

Hiking the Historic Lime Kiln Trail

It’s been a crazy long time since we’ve been hiking. Our last hike was in February! And it was a snowshoe!! Ever since we began the house-hunting adventure, there’s been almost no time to get outside. Luckily, we’ve achieved our goal and bought a house! That means we’re done for the year now, right? We can just coast, right? Maybe. Either way, now that we’re finally feeling settled into the house, we took a day to ourselves and went on a nice local hike. The weather in Seattle has been freaking gorgeous for the past couple of weeks. So of course, on the one day we can go hiking, it’s forecasted to rain. That’s okay! Rainy days are what river hikes are for.

Trailshot Tuesday: Mount Fremont

Trailshot Tuesday: Mount Fremont

So, I did a terrible job at posting last year. This year, I’m determined to make that up. I found these photos from a hike Spenser & I went on while at a weekend hiking retreat at Camp Sheppard with the Washington Hikers & Climbers gang. The Fremont Lookout is an easy 5 mile hike out to spectacular vistas, and I can’t wait to revisit it.

Fragrance Lake in Larrabee State Park

Fragrance Lake in Larrabee State Park

Yesterday, I had Martin Luther King Jr. Day off, but Spenser didn’t, so I took myself on a little solo adventure, my first of its kind. I wanted to take it easy, but also discover a place I had never been to before. The weather was looking pretty spotty all weekend, and I knew I didn’t want to go anywhere with snow by myself, so after a couple of recommendations from coworkers, I settled on Fragrance Lake up on the famously scenic Chuckanut Drive.

2015 in Review

2015 in Review

2015 was a big year for us in a lot of ways. We didn’t start out the year with a ton of lofty goals beyond “get married” and “don’t ruin ourselves financially,” so I think we did pretty well in that aspect. 2 for 2 so far. I guess my other goal was to update the blog more regularly, and I only updated 10 times (11 if I actually publish this one in 2015…(haha! didn’t happen)), so that was a bust. It’s an easy goal to beat for 2016 though!
