2016’s First Hike: Skyline Lake

2016’s First Hike: Skyline Lake

Happy 2016! Though we’ve been to Skyline Lake before, we wanted a nice familiar hike to take our new snowshoes out on our last day of holiday vacation. We both got the MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes for Christmas (thanks, Dad!!), so I’m determined to go snowshoeing more than once a year now. Our original plan was Gold Creek Pond, but the trail became totally packed down in the week since the last snow, rendering snowshoes pointless out there. So, we set off this morning from home with mugs full of hot wine and a song in our hearts (or something).

Stop, Hammock Time.

Stop, Hammock Time.

On this beautiful Sunday evening, we decided to head down to St. Edward State Park to hang the hammock up and read for a while. Although I got the hammock from Woot! last Christmas, and this was our first time to actually try it out. We made a trip to REI this afternoon to pick up the ENO Atlas Hammock Suspension System. So tonight, after getting some other things done around the apartment, we headed across the lake to the park to relax. And hammocks are so relaxing!

Camping Gear

Camping Gear

Seeing as how this year is going to be a year filled with tons of hiking and backpacking and camping, I thought it might be appropriate to go over the gear we’ve acquired since we took our first trip to Second Beach last year. Check out all of the details in the rest of this post.
