2016’s First Hike: Skyline Lake

2016’s First Hike: Skyline Lake

Happy 2016! Though we’ve been to Skyline Lake before, we wanted a nice familiar hike to take our new snowshoes out on our last day of holiday vacation. We both got the MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes for Christmas (thanks, Dad!!), so I’m determined to go snowshoeing more than once a year now. Our original plan was Gold Creek Pond, but the trail became totally packed down in the week since the last snow, rendering snowshoes pointless out there. So, we set off this morning from home with mugs full of hot wine and a song in our hearts (or something).

New Toys!

New Toys!

I got some fun things today! In our quest for a healthier self in the new year, my brother and I exchanged gifts to help us stay on track. I wanted to get him a kettlebell for his fledgling home gym, and I told him I had been eyeing a Fitbit to help me track my own progress. Well, in a whirlwind of Amazon shopping, I accidentally had the 25lb kettlebell that was supposed to go to Texas shipped to my apartment. I tried to change the shipping address, but to no avail. The seller wouldn’t allow me to edit the order (or even cancel it), and the weight came to me. So basically I just bought myself a kettlebell. I ordered his again (this time to the correct address), and everyone had a merry (belated) Christmas. The one I accidentally bought for myself came today, as well as my gift from him, the Fitbit!

Thanks Sean!

Thanks Sean!

I’ve been enjoying the Fitbit Zip’s simple and beautifully designed web interface, Android, and iOS apps. It syncs wirelessly to my computer, so I can automatically see my steps, calories burned, and even track my caloric and water intake. I wish it was integrated with my favorite workout app Fitocracy, but I’m sure that will happen in the future.

Oh look! I already got my first badge!!
